Korean Skincare Routine: A Beginner's Guide in 5 Steps
Share
Korean skincare is not based on a single expensive product, but rather on gentle steps applied in the correct order. You may have heard of the 10 steps; the good news is that 5 steps are enough to get started. In this guide, we simplify the setup of your morning and evening routine.
1. Cleanse
If you have used makeup and sunscreen in the evening, wash your face first with an oil-based cleanser, followed by a gel or foam cleanser. This is called double cleansing and prevents pores from clogging. In the mornings, a single gentle cleanser is sufficient.
2. Balance with toner
Korean toners do not dry out the skin; on the contrary, they provide the first layer of moisture and ensure that subsequent products are absorbed better. Instead of wiping with a cotton pad, pour it into your palms and apply it to your face by gently tapping.
3. Serum or ampoule
This is the "treatment" step of the routine. Choose according to your skin's needs:
- Dryness: hyaluronic acid, ceramide
- Blemishes and dullness: niacinamide, vitamin C
- Sensitivity and redness: centella (cica), panthenol
- Blackheads and acne: BHA, tea tree
4. Moisturize
Use a light gel cream or a richer cream to lock in the effects of the serum. Oily skin also needs moisturizer; dehydrated skin produces even more oil.
5. Protect from the sun (morning)
The biggest causes of blemishes and premature aging are the sun. Use SPF 50 every morning, even in winter and on cloudy days; about two finger lengths is enough for the face.
2-3 times a week: mask
Sheet masks and peeling pads boost the routine. Apply after evening cleansing and toning, and pat the remaining essence into the skin.
